Think Like The CEO.

2 Minutes Business Article

Title: Think Like The CEO

“Until you learn to own it in your heart you may never have it in your hands.” ~ Paulvan

No matter how you're treated as an employee, until you learn to work efficiently in another man's vision with an ownership disposition, you just might still be very far from successfully running your own stuff.
What do you think is part of the reasons behind many failed visions and messed-up businesses? It's simply the harvest of the seeds many have sown when they were serving/working under others.

I can understand this is a hard one.
Here's what Chief Obafemi Awolowo said On The Law Of Sowing and Reaping in a Lecture at the University of Lagos, 1968.

"Like cause always produce like effect. In kind, we always reap what we sow; but quantitatively, we always reap much more than we sow."

Today's article is not about the law of sowing and reaping - Maybe it's about the law of owning and reaping.

I've just simply shown one of the deficit of not thinking like the CEO. It can cost one everything.

Thinking like the CEO is thinking and acting like the owner, while understanding boundaries, even-though your name is not on the share holders list.

What are the qualities you need to think like the CEO?
Let's discuss that tomorrow.

How To Think Like The Professionals.

2 Minutes Business Article

Title: How To Think Like The Professionals

I don't know how true, but if you know, that's fine! I heard it was Chief Obafemi Awolowo who said once that; “Everyone must thrive to know everything about something and something about everything.”

In other words, be a professional at one/many things if you have the ability, and also, be versatile.

Think Like An Accountant

In a very concise layman's sense, an accountant is one who records how money comes, how money goes, and then, the difference/details. Is this what you cannot do for yourself? No, just about anyone can do this.

Recently, I was offered a Job to be an accountant for an Organisation I Coordinated a project for. When I got the call, I was asked if I can work as an accountant? I said yes. The offer came because of the way I managed funds on the project. I didn't take the Job though because of a bigger assignment.

My knowledge of accounting came from a fast food restaurant I worked for some years back, where I worked as an auditor and learnt on the Job.

It was in that same company I learnt to work as an Inventory officer, supervisor, manager, and a chef. Little did I know that all these skills will eventually turn me into a consultant who advises business people.

In life, we will always have opportunities to learn, and people around who can teach us - It's up to us to take the challenge and learn. Every experience you learn where you work, will be very useful to you when you start your own business, so, put your heart to it, and give your best. We might not necessarily reap where we sow, but, we eventually reap what we sow in life.

Thinking like an accountant is as simply as understanding that a car is a depreciating asset, while a Land/House is an appreciating asset.
Lean to invest in assets not Liabilities.

All great entrepreneurs are accountants without certificates. Even if they have it, they don't need it.
